What if…

Family

I hear the same thing over and over again, “Love your spouse”, “Love your children”, “Be home more often”, “Never go to bed angry.”  And the list goes on.  Yet I always wonder why the same rhetoric needs to be said over and over again?  2 to 3 thousand years ago people wrote about the same topics we read and hear today.  Topics that are preached on Sunday’s, spoken during business meetings during the week, discussed at length at company retreats that all have a basic common message.

One message our pastor frequently discusses is the concept that people forget to live Monday through Saturday what is handed down on Sunday.  This is my perception.  On Sunday people wear their “Sunday go the meeting” (church) clothing to listen to a pastor talk about God, Christ, and living a spiritually fulfilled life.  They nod their heads in agreement and ever so often throw out an “amen.”  The spirit moves through them as God is doing his work.

Then Monday comes.  Off to work.  First thing you might notice is the clothing is no longer “Sunday’s” best.  Attitudes are different.  It’s a different game being played.

Well, what if…

  1. What if you wore “Sunday’s best” everyday?  How would that impact your life?
  2. What if you listened to every person you came into contact with as intently as your Pastor?
  3. What if you considered everyone you met had a message from God?  Would you listen differently?
  4. What if God is working through all of us to have the most positive impact on everyone?  Would you watch what you say?
As I consider my weekly activities, I will endeavor to listen to everyone as if they had a message from God.  I will dress as if I am heading to church.  I will speak as if God is using me to send the person listening to me a message.
What if you and I run into each other?
